88 areas under state of calamity due to habagat, cyclones – NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 88 cities and municipalities have been placed under a state of calamity due to the onslaught of the enhanced southwest monsoon or habgat and other weather disturbances in the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.
Based on the agency’s latest data as of Aug. 21, the declarations were made following the impact of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, along with the southwest monsoon.

According to the NDRRMC, more than six million individuals, or 1,905,622 families in total, have been affected by prolonged heavy rains and severe flooding across several regions. from recent weather disturbances.

The figures are from Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula, the agency said.
Meanwhile, estimated infrastructure damage has reached over P4 million, with around 1,884 partially damaged and 226 destroyed.
