Davao Region logs 1.6% increase in dengue cases in August

The Department of Health (DOH) Davao Region recorded a 1.6% increase in dengue cases over a two-week period in August.

In a "24 Oras Weekend" report on Saturday, the DOH said 1,339 dengue cases were recorded from August 9 to 22, up from 1,318 cases logged in the preceding two weeks.

From January to the first week of September, dengue cases in the region reached 10,808, according to the report. However, health officials said this remained lower than the number of cases recorded during the same period in 2025.

The DOH urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms of dengue and avoid self-medication to prevent the illness from worsening.

According to the Health Department, symptoms of mild dengue include high fever, skin rashes, dizziness and body aches.

Warning signs of severe dengue include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from the gums or nose, vomiting blood, blood in the stool, and extreme fatigue or weakness.

If left untreated, severe dengue can lead to life-threatening complications, including severe bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure and death, the DOH warned. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/MCG, GMA News
