'24-hour ultimatum': CJP asks Delhi Police to fix date, time for Jantar Mantar protest

CJP activist Saurav Das said the party was willing to let the police decide the date and time for the protest.

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists visited Parliament Street Police Station on Monday to seek a date for their proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, giving Delhi Police 24 hours to respond.

CJP activist Saurav Das said the party was willing to let the police decide the date and time for the protest."Police tells everyone to approach them 10 days in advance. We are now saying that they have the choice to tell us the date and time (for protest at Jantar Mantar). We are giving them 24-hour ultimatum," Das told news agency ANI.CJP activist Ashutosh Ranka said the party would seek a date for the protest from Delhi Police and expressed hope that the authorities would respond."We are going to ask Delhi Police for a date to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar. We hope the police will give us a date. If they do not, we will make another call within 24 hours..." Ranka said."Peaceful protest is a right, a constitutional right, and people are already exercising it. People will protest peacefully. The police always complain that we should approach them 10 days in advance," Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das told news agency PTI."We are now leaving the choice to them and asking them to specify the date and time. However, we will not let them keep the matter pending. We will give them a 24-hour ultimatum. Let's see," Das added. (With agency inputs)
