Asian Games 2026 Day 2 Live Updates: India beat Japan in regu sepaktakraw

India are mounting a strong challenge across several events. In men’s team regu sepaktakraw, India recovered brilliantly against Japan after trailing 5-10, winning the first set 15-13 after Akash’s substitution sparked a seven-point run. India then dominated the second set to win the match 15-13, 15-7.

In men’s 10m air rifle qualifying, which also counts as the team-event final, India’s Rudrankksh Patil, Parth Mane and Himanshu Dhillon have begun competition.

Himanshu opened with 105.3 to sit eighth early, Parth scored 104.5 in 13th and Rudrankksh 104.2 in 15th. The standings remain fluid as shooters have completed different numbers of shots.

In women’s Changquan wushu, Nyeman Wangsu scored 9.573 and is currently 13th among 14 athletes who have performed, leaving her out of medal contention.

Meanwhile, Jay Meena and Aadhya Tiwari made an excellent start in soft tennis mixed doubles, defeating Cambodia 4-1, 4-0, 4-2, 4-1, 4-2. They next face Mongolia.

Suchika Tariyal assured India of its first medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, defeating Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 to storm into the semifinals of the women’s Traditional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) 60kg event on Sunday.

The 36-year-old veteran, who has carved out a multi-discipline combat sports career spanning judo, kurash, jiu-jitsu and now MMA, will fight in the semifinals on Monday.

A place in the semifinals guarantees a medal in the event, with the two losing semifinalists awarded bronze.

The Asian Games 2026 got underway in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday with India making a strong start to their medal campaign, picking up two silver medals in the women's 10m air rifle competition.
