NMG announces major changes to editorial leadership

- In Kenya, Mr Harry Misiko, the current Managing Editor in charge of Content Strategy, will now lead the Kenyan newsroom operations as Acting Editor-in-Chief.
Nation Media Group has made changes to its editorial leadership to enhance its newsroom integration journey and continue strengthening its regional businesses in Uganda and Tanzania.
In the changes announced by the Group Managing Director and CEO Geoffrey Odundo on Wednesday, the media house said the new roles would enhance its digital transformation in the region.
“Following a review of the Group’s editorial structure and evolving business requirements across the region, we wish to inform you of the following changes, effective immediately,” Mr Odundo said in a communication to staff.

In the changes, the Editor-in-Chief, Dr Joe Ageyo, moves to NMG Uganda in the same capacity.
He will be accompanied to Kampala by Mr Washington Gikunju, currently Managing Editor, Publishing, Kenya, who will take up the position of Acting Managing Editor, NMG Uganda.
In Kenya, Mr Harry Misiko, the current Managing Editor in charge of Content Strategy, will now lead the Kenyan newsroom operations as Acting Editor-in-Chief.
Meanwhile, James Smart, currently the Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media, Kenya, moves to Tanzania as Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media, Mwananchi Communications Limited.
Other key changes in the Kenyan business include the appointment of Mr Dann Mwangi, currently Lead Editor, Broadcast, as Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media. Mr Mwangi will take over from Mr Smart.
Mr John Kiplagat, currently Head of Production, becomes Acting Managing Editor, Publishing, replacing Mr Gikunju.
Elsewhere, Mr Michael Owuor, the current Lead Editor, Weekends, moves to Daily Nation as Acting Lead Editor.
He will be replaced by Justus Wanga, the current Editor, Politics, who takes over as Acting Lead Editor, Weekend Edition.
The changes will also see Mr Ben Kitili, the Editor, Video Hub, appointed Acting Lead Editor, Broadcasting, replacing Mr Mwangi.
At Business Daily, Mr Michael Omondi, the Editor, Business Hub, becomes Acting Lead Editor of the niche business publication.
The new Editor in charge of content hubs in Kenya is Mr Alex Ndegwa, currently the Lead Editor, Daily Nation.
“We congratulate all our colleagues and ask everyone to accord them the necessary support as they transition into their respective roles,” Mr Odundo said in his message to staff.
