The top of a chedi crumbled and fell to the ground at Wat Mai Nong Hoi in Doi Lo district, Chiang Mai, on Tuesday morning, raising concerns over the stability of nearby structures.

There were no initial reports of people being injured.

The incident occurred around 9.30am, and Regional Ecclesiastical Office 7 subsequently issued an urgent advisory closing the area to the public. The report alarmed local devotees.

The chedi, in San Ti Suk tambon, sustained severe damage. Fallen bricks and broken construction concrete littered the ground at its base.

Video recordings captured a cracking sound immediately before the top of the structure gradually crumbled and fell.

Regional Ecclesiastical Office 7, working with local officials and agencies, cordoned off the surrounding area and structures as a precaution against further damage occurring.

The cause of the collapse was unknown. Authorities are investigating the incident.
