Kuala Pilah student death: Fadhlina orders probe, immediate audit

KUALA PILAH: The Education Ministry has ordered an immediate audit following the death of a Form Two student at a school here, who was believed to have been bullied.

Education Minister Datuk Fadhlina Sidek said no one would be protected if misconduct or breaches of the law were found.

"I have instructed the Schools Inspectorate to carry out an immediate audit to identify any non-compliance.

"Appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation findings and in accordance with the law," she said in a statement.

She said police investigations into the incident were ongoing.

She added that the ministry had been informed that a student had been detained to assist in the investigation.

Fadhlina said the Education Ministry and the school would fully cooperate with the police to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

"At the ministry level, safety and compliance with procedures at the school will be examined thoroughly," she said.

Fadhlina expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Form Two student.

She said the Education Ministry extended its condolences to the bereaved family.

"I met the deceased's family at the hospital to personally convey my sympathy over this heartbreaking loss.

"This morning, I also went to the school to meet school staff, District Education Office officers, State Education Department officers and the police to obtain an explanation of the incident and the action taken," she said.

She said the Education Ministry was also providing counselling and psychosocial support to the deceased's family and school community affected by the incident.

She said the family's welfare remained the priority during this difficult time.

"The Education Ministry will fully cooperate with the police investigation and ensure the welfare of the school community remains protected," she said.
