Chris Rock exposes brutal reality of Hollywood after decades of fame

Chris Rock says Los Angeles is where people go to chase their dreams – and where many of those dreams die.

The comedian reflected on his decades in Hollywood during an appearance Monday on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," while discussing "Misty Green," a movie he stars in and directs that releases Oct. 9.

The movie follows an actress who moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. After her career stalls, she begins searching for purpose in a second act. Rock said he related to the story, recalling that he thought Los Angeles was "so beautiful" when he first moved there.

"And it's still beautiful, but there's homeless people everywhere. Like even on Rodeo Drive sometimes. It's where people go to find their dreams, but so many dreams die," Rock said.

He added that "everybody you meet there had grand plans," but "LA will send you home."

"You get a job on television and people somehow think that money’s going to last you the rest of your life," Rock said. "You had a show 10, 15 years ago. That doesn’t cover it now."
