Hospital Contracts Extended- SHA Ensures Continued Service Delivery Through Mid-October
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has granted healthcare providers a 14-day extension to finalize their contracting process for the 2026–2029 cycle. The new deadline is now set for October 14, 2026, offering medical facilities additional time to complete administrative requirements and avoid disruption to patient care.
In an official notice issued on October 1, 2026, signed by SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the authority confirmed that facilities whose previous contracts expired on September 30 will continue operating under their existing agreements during the grace period. However, SHA firmly warned that these existing contracts will lapse immediately when the 14-day window expires, with no further extensions granted beyond October 14.
To maintain service continuity, healthcare facilities must log into the SHA e-contracting platform, sign, and return the extension agreement within three days. SHA emphasized that state-funded medical care will only continue at facilities that explicitly accept and return this temporary extension. Facilities opting out are required to coordinate with SHA county managers to arrange the smooth transfer of ongoing patients to contracted facilities.
To expedite onboarding, SHA will roll out dedicated “HAKIKA” contracting clinics across all county offices starting Monday, October 5, assisting healthcare operators in clearing documentation hurdles. According to SHA, over 10,000 healthcare providers have already expressed interest and are currently at various stages of the 2026–2029 contracting pipeline.
