Tinubu group facilitates electricity project for Kaduna community

A new 7.5MVA electricity substation project has been launched in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in an intervention aimed at improving power supply to a community whose residents have reportedly endured electricity shortages for about 15 years.

The project, facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group and being implemented by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government, comprises a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation, a two-kilometre 11kV distribution line and a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in Rigasa on Friday, with the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, performing the ceremony on behalf of Governor Uba Sani.

Speaking at the event, Balarabe said improved electricity supply would support businesses, raise productivity and ease the burden on households, adding that the state government would continue to pursue infrastructure development through strategic partnerships.

The project is expected to strengthen the local distribution network and provide additional capacity to serve homes, businesses and other electricity users in the densely populated community.

The Convener of BAT-IG, Bamidele Atoyebi, said the intervention followed concerns raised by residents and reflected the group’s effort to translate political engagement into practical responses to community needs.

“When you identify a problem, you do not simply talk about it; you find a solution to it,” Atoyebi said.

He said the group had facilitated more than 100 interventions across different sectors, adding that its approach was to mobilise support and work towards resolving problems rather than merely drawing attention to them.

“Where there is a problem, we can help solve it. We will not merely complain about it. We will organise, mobilise and act,” he said.

Atoyebi said the Rigasa project was intended to deliver benefits beyond electricity supply, including better prospects for businesses, expanded economic opportunities, improved security and better livelihoods.

He described the intervention as an example of what he called “the politics of service” and “the politics of solution”, linking it to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Executive Director, Networks, NDPHC, Engr Bello Babayo Bello, represented the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr Jennifer Adighije, at the ceremony.

Also present were NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Patrick Obahiagbon, and the District Head of Rigasa, Arc Mohammed Idris.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), who is the Grand Patron of BAT-IG, and Senator Abu Ibrahim also attended the event.
