AMRITSAR: A woman allegedly assaulted a nearly five-year-old girl in the middle of a road in the Dharampura area of Joda Phatak on Thursday evening, with CCTV footage showing her repeatedly slapping the child, throwing her to the ground and dragging her towards her house.The incident took place around 7pm, according to the girl's family.In the CCTV footage, the girl is seen running along the road with her mother following her when the woman, identified as Anmol alias Boni, runs towards the child, grabs her and repeatedly slaps her.She then throws the girl to the ground and drags her towards her house as the child struggles to free herself.The girl's mother reaches the spot and tries to intervene, but the woman allegedly abuses and threatens her.
The mother is seen falling on the road while trying to move away.Local residents then reach the spot and pull the girl away from the woman. The footage also shows the woman attempting to approach the child again before residents take her away.The child, Amania, is reported to have a problem with her legs and wears special footwear. Her father, Pankaj, told media persons that the girl had gone out to fetch some household items when the woman allegedly attacked her.
He said the family was not aware of what had triggered the assault.Pankaj said a tuition teacher who reached the spot helped rescue the child, while other residents also intervened. The family later approached police and sought action against the woman.An investigating officer told media that Pankaj, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, had complained that Anmol alias Boni assaulted his daughter and also manhandled her mother when she tried to rescue the child.Police have taken the CCTV footage into possession and are investigating the allegations.The family and some residents also alleged that the woman had behaved erratically in the locality earlier and claimed that she had a mental health problem. Police have not confirmed the claim and are verifying the facts.Anmol's mother, meanwhile, alleged that the two families had an old dispute and said her daughter was angry with the girl's mother. She claimed Anmol had followed the child in anger, expecting her mother to intervene.Police said further action would be taken on the basis of the investigation.
