Ravichandran Ashwin-led Dublin Guardians’ miserable campaign in the inaugural European T20 Premier League continued on Friday as the side lost by 12 runs to Edinburgh Castle Rockers in Malahide.

Former Indian off-spinner Ashwin won the toss and invited the Castle Rockers to bat first. Andries Gous (50), Brandon McMullen (69 not out) and skipper Mitchell Santner (27 not out) made significant contribution as the team put up a total of 174 for 4.

In reply, the Guardians seemed to be in a comfortable position at 108 for 2 before a flurry of wickets derailed the chase.

Ashwin came in to bat at number eight with his team requiring 30 runs off 11 balls to win. The right-handed batter lasted only one ball as Jack Jarvis had him caught by Santner at long-off.

With a solitary win in their seven matches, the Guardians are placed fifth amongst the six teams.
