Bangladesh became the first team to advance to the women’s cricket semifinals after its quarterfinal against China was abandoned due to a wet outfield.
Inclement weather has been a feature of the recent days at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on the outskirts of Nagoya, and it proved decisive on Thursday as no play was possible.
Bangladesh thus advanced to the semifinals as per playing conditions 16.10.2 (b), which states that the higher-ranked side will advance in the event of a washout.
Nigar Sultana Joty’s side will now likely face India, which plays its quarterfinal against Japan on September 18, in the semifinals.
Pakistan is scheduled to play Thailand at the same venue in Thursday’s other fixture.
