Indonesia's domestic investment nears Rp2,000 trillion under Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's domestic investment reached nearly Rp2,000 trillion during the first two years of President Prabowo Subianto's administration, reflecting strong confidence among domestic businesses in the country's economic prospects, a business leader said on Saturday.
Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Bakrie made the remarks during a presidential briefing in Hambalang, Bogor District, West Java, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
He said domestic investment had involved businesses across various sectors and scales, including medium-sized enterprises, helping strengthen the resilience of the national economy.
"Domestic investment also involves our friends in the middle segment. We see this as further strengthening our resilience," Anindya said.
He described domestic investment as an important foundation for expanding private-sector participation in national development, noting that businesses still had considerable room to contribute to economic growth.
Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) stands at around Rp25,000 trillion, while the state budget accounts for approximately Rp4,000 trillion. The remaining 85 percent of economic activity represents an opportunity for businesses to play a greater role, he said.
Anindya reaffirmed Kadin's commitment to promoting investment in emerging industries while strengthening established industrial sectors.
He identified electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy and data centers as promising investment areas, citing their potential to increase the use of locally produced components.
"Our focus is not only on existing industries but also on future industries, such as EVs, renewable energy and data centers, which also have significant potential for local components," he said.
Anindya made the remarks as Kadin outlined its business priorities at its national leadership meeting, which carried the theme "People-Centered Economy and Indonesia Going Global."
He also described Indonesia's economic fundamentals as resilient despite global uncertainties, saying the country remained one of the world's bright spots, a characterization previously used by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He stressed the importance of strengthening the capacity of regional entrepreneurs and medium-sized businesses to help them expand their operations and move up the business value chain.
Greater domestic investment, he said, could support national economic growth while creating broader opportunities for local businesses to expand and emerge as major players in the future.
