Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said 33.2 million families in Indonesia will receive 30 kilograms of rice as food aid for the October to December 2026 allocation.

Hasan said at a food aid distribution event in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Wednesday that the aid is given free of charge to people in deciles 1 through 4, or the poorest 40 percent of households.

The program is a government policy approved by the President to ensure underprivileged people continue to obtain food necessities.

The aid for the three months is distributed at once, or in a lump sum, so each recipient family gets a total of 30 kilograms of rice.

“Food aid, meaning you do not pay, free, for deciles 1 through 4. A total of 33.2 million families will receive 10 kilograms of food aid in October, 10 kilograms in November, and 10 kilograms in December,” he said.

He also asked people in deciles 1 through 4 who have not received aid and have truly run out of rice to go to an office of state logistics agency Bulog to get aid first.

“If Bulog has not distributed yet and there is truly no rice at home, they can come to the Bulog office and take it first. If it is deciles 1 through 4, it is allowed,” he added.

Hasan stressed that the government is working to ensure no one struggles to eat because they have no rice.

“As the President instructed, do not let any of our people be unable to eat because there is no rice. They must be helped,” Hasan said.

Meanwhile, Bulog South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Head Ihsan said aid recipients in South Sumatra total 961,987, with a total rice amount of 28,859 tons.

Bulog is fully committed to maintaining national food availability and stability through various programs, including this food aid distribution.

“We ensure the distribution process runs smoothly and on target so the benefits can be felt directly by people in need,” Ihsan said.
