Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC will renew their southern rivalry when they meet at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27.
The host side enters the derby riding high after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Sporting Club Delhi, while Chennaiyin head FC Goa to a gritty 1-1 draw.
The Blues, despite the win, were exposed in defence, conceding two goals at home.
“We have to be stronger in duels,” Muñoz said, reflecting on the opening game. He acknowledged that Delhi had found ways to trouble his side and stressed the need to improve defensively. He also described Chennaiyin as an intense, direct team with dangerous forwards.
Bengaluru FC will be without forward Sivasakthi Narayanan, but its coach highlighted that the team has a lot of depth to make an impact.
“You look at the bench. You have a lot of options, offensive options, defensive options, players that can change the game,” Munoz added.

Chennaiyin, on the other hand, will miss three players with injuries: Glan Martins and Maheson Singh in the midfield and Vivek S. in attack. But its head coach Clifford Miranda has stressed that defence will be one of the key areas to focus on for him and his boys.
“We have to defend in a way that doesn’t allow them much space. In the end, the most important thing is to stay compact and not give the opposition space and time,” Miranda said.
The match between Chennaiyin and Bengaluru carries a rich history.
Chennaiyin defeated Bengaluru 3-2 in the 2017-18 ISL final at the Kanteerava, while Bengaluru claimed a 2-1 away win in the sides’ final meeting last season through Serto Worneilen Kom’s 89th-minute strike. Chennaiyin defender Namgyal Bhutia will also face his former club.
Over 18 meetings between the two sides, Bengaluru leads the record with 11 wins to just four for Chennaiyin FC. The last time the Marina Machans won at Kanteerava was eight years ago — a record it will look to break this time around on Saturday.
