Palace orders remote work in 15 areas amid rains

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has ordered government offices in 15 areas to implement alternative work arrangements on Tuesday, August 18, due to continuous rain brought by the southwest monsoon.

The areas covered are the National Capital Region, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, and Occidental Mindoro.

The order came upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and in view of the Heavy Rainfall Warnings issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, based on Memorandum Circular No. 128 issued on Monday.

“Unless otherwise directed by their respective Local Chief Executives, alternative learning modes for classes at all levels in public and private schools shall be implemented in the aforementioned areas,” it read.

Meanwhile, agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness and response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.

Local Chief Executives may implement localized cancellation or suspension of classes and/or work in government offices in other areas.

Additionally, the suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements in the private sector shall be left to the discretion of management. /mcm
