PAK vs ENG: Why Pakistan are wearing pink jerseys against England in ODI Tri-series

Pakistan vs England

Pakistan will wear pink jerseys instead of their usual green kits for their ODI Tri-series match against England at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, October 25.The special jerseys are part of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage people to get checked early.

The initiative is being held during October, which is observed worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The PCB has teamed up with Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust Hospital to spread awareness and support patients who need treatment.

Pakistan, England join hands for breast bancer awareness

Pakistan’s players will wear specially designed pink jerseys, while England players, match officials and commentators will wear pink ribbons to show their support. The stumps will also be pink, and stadium screens and advertising boards will carry messages about breast cancer awareness. The PCB has also arranged free breast cancer screenings for fans from October 24 to 26 through its partnership with Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust Hospital.“The Pakistan Cricket Board recognises the responsibility that comes with the immense following and influence of cricket in our country,” said the PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed.“Through this Pink Ribbon initiative, we want to use the platform of international cricket to raise awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and timely medical attention.”

Fans can also purchase special pink-themed merchandise through the PCB’s online store. Money raised from the initiative will help pay for the treatment of patients who cannot afford it. The board has also arranged an auction of signed jerseys from Pakistan stars Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam, with proceeds going towards the same cause. Pakistan previously held a Pink Day during their T20I series against South Africa last year.

Pakistan eye final spot as England fight to stay alive

Away from the awareness campaign, the match is important for both teams in the tri-series. Pakistan will aim for their third consecutive victory to secure a place in the final, while England need a win after losing their first two games.England suffered an 87-run defeat against Pakistan in their previous meeting. They also recently endured one of the highest successful run-chases in ODI history, despite Harry Brook scoring a record-breaking double century.
