Ian McKellen and Roger Allam's drama with "legendary" cast gets heartwarming trailer

Translate

An official trailer has been released for Frank and Percy, a new drama starring Ian McKellen and Roger Allam as two men who meet while walking their dogs on Hampstead Heath in London. They develop a friendship that blossoms into a romance, but as we see in the trailer, one of them is more hesitant to commit than the other.

Directed by Sean Mathias, the film has an absolutely stacked supporting cast, with the newly released trailer showcasing most of them.

There's Dame Joanna Lumley, Sir Stephen Fry, Sir Derek Jacobi and Rob Brydon, alongside Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa, Baby Reindeer's Jessica Gunning, and The Windsors' Hugh Skinner.

The film also stars Peter Davison, Dame Siân Phillips, Felicity Kendal, Dame Sheila Hancock, Gary Wilmot, Nitin Ganatra, Amari Bacchus, and Wayne Sleep.

The official synopsis calls it a "legendary" supporting cast, and we can't disagree.

The film is an adaption of the play which both lead actors starred in, which director Sean Mathias also helmed. Martin Sherman adapted the script for the screen.

If you're lucky enough to be attending the London Film Festival, you'll be able to see the film's premiere tomorrow (13 October). Sadly, we don't have a wider release date yet.

It's a big year for McKellen, as he also starred in Steven Soderbergh's black comedy The Christophers alongside Michaela Coel, which currently sits at a 95% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

He'll also be seen in Avengers: Doomsday in December, reprising his role as Magneto from the X-Men films for a major Marvel superhero crossover. He's also been filming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum as Gandalf the Grey, which is expected to hit the big screen next year.

Frank and Percy will be screened at the London Film Festival tomorrow.
