Super League Kerala 2026: Calicut sees off Kombans, pockets full points

Calicut FC survived a second-half revival from Thiruvananthapuram Kombans to chalk out a 2-0 win in the Super League Kerala (SLK) at the EMS Corporation Stadium here on Saturday.

The visiting side played the two halves in contrasting styles. After a lacklustre first period, the Kombans dominated the second, putting the home side under immense pressure. However, the difference between the two teams was in execution.

While Calicut capitalised on its period of domination by scoring two goals, Kombans failed. K. Prasanth and Maximiliano Urruti found the target for Calicut, which held on to to take full points.

In the first half, Calicut unsettled the Kombans defence with moves from either flanks. The first real chance for Calicut came in the 11th minute when Andrews moved down the right flank and centred the ball to Urruti who shot wide from close range. In the 17th minute, Calicut wasted another chance when Andrews’ first touch to a curling cross from Federico Boasso sent it over the bar.

Yet, Calicut went ahead in the 22nd minute when Boasso after receiving a long ball from the right wing sidestepped the onrushing goalkeeper Satyajit Bordoloi and his cut back from the byline was tapped in by Prasanth. Joseph Gordan’s long ranger from 25 yards, which hit the side netting, was the only riposte from Kombans in the first half.

Calicut doubled its lead with a controversial penalty in added time. Andrews was clearly off-side when he received the long ball from Boaso but the linesman’s flag stayed down before he was brought down by Jestin George inside the box. Urruti sent Satyajit the wrong way to make it 2-0 from the spot.
