Right now is a great time to be a fan of Mahershala Ali, even if his long-gestating Blade movie at Marvel was officially canceled earlier this year. First announced in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Blade has been one of Marvel’s biggest failures in the last few years, with countless creative turnover and delays that led to the film being completely removed from the release schedule last year. It wasn’t until this year that Kevin Feige came out and admitted that he “failed” with Blade, and Ali came out just a few weeks later and distanced himself from the project, saying that he was “completely done.” Ali was fresh off winning two Oscars in three years when he was first announced as the Daywalker, and he would have been one of the most talented performers the MCU had ever seen.
One director who was originally attached to direct Marvel’s Blade movie before backing out of the project was Bassam Tariq, who is best known for his work on films such as Mogul Mowgli and Ghosts of Sugar Land. All the way back in February 2025, it was announced that Mahershala Ali and Bassam Tariq would work together after all, albeit not on Marvel’s Blade. The duo teamed up for a new assassin movie, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which is set to premiere in theaters on October 9. After the film earned a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Collider is thrilled to partner with Amazon MGM to exclusively preview a new featurette from the film, highlighting some of the intense action in the new thriller.
What Is ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’ About?
Amazon MGM’s official synopsis for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which also stars John Cho and Giancarlo Esposito, reads as follows: “From writer-director Bassam Tariq, Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother stars Mahershala Ali as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman who struggles to balance work, faith and fatherhood. When his wife dies, he embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, confronting the forces closing in around him — and the beliefs threatening to unravel within.” Ali and Tariq may not have had the chance to make Blade together, but the duo’s new hitman thriller, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, is officially becoming a must-watch hit for when it arrives in theaters next month.
Check out Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother in theaters starting on October 9 and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Mahershala Ali’s future projects.
