A resident of the area, Sachi Isah, urged motorists plying the route to exercise caution, particularly when approaching bends and other dangerous sections of the road.

Mr Isah also advised drivers embarking on long journeys to rest adequately after travelling several kilometres before continuing their trips.

He said such measures would help reduce avoidable crashes and loss of lives on the highway.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police, the Federal Road Safety Corps or other relevant authorities confirming the number of casualties or the circumstances surrounding the crash.
