Yola-Mubi road: APC elders laud contractor, urge FG action

The Adamawa State All Progressives Congress Elders Forum, Northern Zone, has commended the contractor handling the Yola-Mubi road project, AG Vision, for the quality of work on the first phase and urged the Federal Government to fast-track the award of the second phase.

Speaking with journalists in Mubi on Monday, the spokesman for the group, Mohammed Abubakar, said the first phase of the project had been completed, urging the Federal Government to award the contract for the second phase before the 2027 general elections.

Abubakar described the Yola-Mubi road as critical to the people of northern Adamawa, noting that it links Nigeria with the Republic of Cameroon, while Mubi remains an important commercial centre in the state.

“The Yola-Mubi road is very important to the people of northern Adamawa State because it links Nigeria with the Republic of Cameroon, and Mubi is the commercial centre of Adamawa State.

“Completing the road before the general elections will be an added advantage to our party,” he said.

He commended AG Vision and President Bola Tinubu for what he described as proactive measures that led to the completion of the first phase, while appealing to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to award the second phase.

“We must commend the contractor, AG Vision, and President Bola Tinubu for taking proactive measures to ensure that phase one of the road is completed.

“We appeal to our Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to award the contract for phase two before the forthcoming general elections. This will silence the opposition,” Abubakar said.

He added that completing the road would boost commercial activities in Mubi and strengthen trade relations between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Abubakar also said the road would improve the ability of security agencies to respond to insurgency, banditry and kidnapping in the area.

“The northern Adamawa and central zones are the two zones under security threat. You can see the attacks in Madagali, Hong and Gombi local government areas every week because of their proximity to the Sambisa Forest.

“So, the Yola-Mubi road is important for the military and other security agencies to respond to any attack in the zone,” he said.

Some commercial motorists also commended the completed section of the road, describing it as one of the better road projects recently executed in the state.

A commercial motorist, Alhaji Saidu Umar, said, “The reconstructed road is wider and thicker than when it was constructed before. We are happy with the contractor, AG Vision, for doing a good job.”

Abubakar further called on the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to use his office to facilitate the award of the second phase of the project before next year.

He alleged that some individuals were attempting to frustrate the project for political reasons.

“Some people, because of their selfish interests, are trying to sabotage the project and use it against the Federal Government, but we are sure that with Ribadu, they cannot achieve their target,” he said.

The APC elder also alleged that some members of the party in Adamawa State were working with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Some top APC members in Adamawa State are working in the night for other political parties. We know that they are not with President Tinubu and our governorship candidate, Alhaji Tijani Galadima, but we are going to shock them at the general elections in 2027,” he said.

Arewa Punch findings indicate that AG Vision completed the first 52-kilometre phase of the Yola-Mubi road project some months ago and is awaiting the award of the second and final phase.
