Between Arkham Asylum, Blackgate Penitentiary, and the Gotham City Police Department, countless incredible tales are told about the horrors that Gotham residents endure on a daily basis, as well as the heroes who devote their lives to saving others.

Following DC Comics’ A-Day in Infinite Frontier, Arkham Asylum has since been replaced by Arkham Towers, where Dr. Annika Zeller works and treats patients like Joker in Matt Fraction’s ongoing Batman run. However, an iconic location that is hardly ever talked about or featured is finally getting its due in a two-part tie-in miniseries that may make Batman’s exploits look like light work.

Gotham General Is A New Side Of DC Comics Heroism

What’s made DC’s Batman: Bad Seeds crossover event as phenomenal as it is so far is how focal a character Gotham is, along with all those inhabiting it who rarely appear in more than a supporting role, or who wouldn’t have even been addressed at all, if it wasn’t for tie-in spin-offs. For instance, Batman #13 carved out the time for an amusing conversation between Batman and a random Gotham resident whom he rescued from the bloom.

But this event is not only featuring DC superheroes as its leads. GCPD officers like Jim Gordon are the protagonists in the two-part spin-off Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham Central, and Gotham General’s hospital staff, such as Dr. Ava Dastur, are slated to be the protagonists in the two-part spin-off Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham General. Batman: Bad Seeds’ Worldbuilding Is The Event’s True Star

It should be compelling to learn more about what the Gotham General staff experience while on shift, as well as what sort of people might wind up in the emergency wing on a gurney. This isn’t a random evening where a thug whose bones Batman broke may appear, though, as Gotham General must now contend with the bloom and TUCO goons. Rosa Ekedal’s black-and-white POV cover for Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham General #2 confirms that it’s Stephanie Brown’s Batgirl who is “delivered to the ED on death’s door,” which is likely a major plotline for the spin-off. Either way, both Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham Central and Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham General are great asides amid key superhero stories that are also ongoing in the Poison Ivy-centric DC event.

Batman: Bad Seeds - Gotham General #1 is scheduled to be released on October 28, 2026.
