Taylor Sheridan's empire of Paramount+ shows may still be expanding, but one major title is coming to an end - Mayor of Kingstown.

The crime drama, which stars Avengers favourite Jeremy Renner, is ending with its upcoming fifth season, the release date for which has now been confirmed as 15 January 2027 on Paramount+.

The synopsis for the new season says: "In the wake of Tracy's murder and the vengeance visited upon Callahan by Mike (Renner) and Kyle (Taylor Handley), FBI agent Russell Hardy (David Morse) arrives in Kingstown searching for the fugitive Callahan. A true lawman, Agent Hardy threatens to unearth all of Mike’s sins and secrets, and disrupt Kingstown's tenuous balance of power."

Along with Renner, season 5, which will be made up of eight episodes, also stars Edie Falco, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, David Morse, Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia and Lennie James.

Alongside the confirmation of the release date, a set of first-look images have also been unveiled for the new season, showing Renner back in action as Mike.

It was something of a surprise when it was announced that season 5 would be the final run of the show earlier this year. Previously, co-creator Hugh Dillon had told ScreenRant that Sheridan had plans for several more seasons beyond that.

He said: "When we first mapped it out, he's the king at knowing where it ends. I like intros, and I like explosive intros. [Chuckles] And he has an ending for it in season 7. Whether it goes that far or that's where we get [who knows], but he has an ending and everyone knows about it, the broad strokes.

"And when you talk to him, he will tell you in detail. So, our goal is to get to that season 7, because that's as far as we can get, because that's where he's always had it."

Mayor of Kingstown season 5 will start airing on 15 January 2027 on Paramount+. Seasons 1-4 are available to stream now. You can sign up to Paramount+ for a seven-day free trial.
