Ogun farmer arrested for alleged defilement of 12-year-old

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 42-year-old farmer, Ganiu Agbajo, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

The girl’s identity is being withheld to protect her privacy.

The agency’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday on behalf of the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo.

Adegbuyi said the suspect was arrested following information received from concerned residents about the alleged incident.

He said the information was received on Monday, by the corps’ Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling, who was alerted by members of the community.

According to the statement, the incident came to light after the girl returned home crying and her mother asked her what had happened.

“The girl told her mother that a man had raped her,” the statement said.

Adegbuyi said the girl’s mother subsequently raised the alarm, while concerned community members reported the matter to the So-Safe Corps.

He said operatives immediately commenced efforts to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrator.

The statement said the suspect was subsequently arrested at his residence at Hassan Compound, Igbokulu, Ita-Egbe, in the Ipokia LGA.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the act,” Ganzallo said.

According to the statement, Agbajo allegedly told operatives that the incident occurred on a farm at Ojugo, Ita-Egbe, in the same area.

Following the preliminary investigation, Adegbuyi said the suspect and the alleged victim were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He said both parties were taken to the Idiroko Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Idiroko Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and legal action,” the statement noted.

Ganzallo commended members of the community for alerting the authorities and urged residents to promptly report suspected criminal activities.

The incident comes amid renewed reports of sexual violence against minors across the country.

PUNCH Metro reported on Thursday that the Cross River State Police Command arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for others over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, said the incident was reported at the Ikpa Omin Police Division on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after the victim allegedly told the police that she was forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area on September 4.

According to the police, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects and prevented from leaving the residence for about three days.
