Vidarbha defeated Jammu & Kashmir in a low-scoring thriller in a Ranji Trophy match at the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Chasing 79, Vidarbha was reduced to 26 for six before Harsh Dubey and Mandar Mahale revived the ship to win the game with three wickets in hand.
The duo added 29 runs for the seventh wicket off 59 balls. Both Dubey and Mahale played cautiously till Tea. However, Sunil Kumar, who had already taken three top order wickets, removed Mahale when Vidarbha still needed 24.
Dubey and Nachiket Bhute then made sure Vidarbha didn’t have any more hiccups and completed the chase.
Earlier, J&K began the day on backfoot having been reduced to 7 for four overnight. It continued to lose wickets with Bhute getting a five-for.
Abdul Samad smacked 39 off 30 balls before Dubey had him caught. Umar Nazir added 16 runs more batting at No.10 to get the score to 123 but a lead of 78 runs was never enough despite a splendid fightback by the defending champion.
