BJP hits out at opposition over EC protest, alleges ‘sole agenda’ is to grab power

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Monday accused the opposition parties of trying to vitiate the country's atmosphere and spread chaos amid their protest against the Election Commission, alleging that the sole agenda of netas like Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal was to "grab power" by any means."Their toolkit mindset is at work: Level allegations, vitiate the country's atmosphere and run away," Union health and family welfare minister J P Nadda said, claiming that the EC's statement following a joint meeting of its three members had exposed the opposition's fabricated charge against the poll body and govt. "Rahul Gandhi should realise that repeating a lie a hundred times cannot make it true," he said.

Opposition parties have cited an Indian Express report, which suggested that CEC Gyanesh Kumar was acting unilaterally over the implementation of SIR as it highlighted written objections from two election commissioners, to step up their attack on the commission and have demanded Kumar's resignation.BJP has seized on the EC's statement on Saturday, which said all SIR related decisions were unanimous while announcing measures to address some of the issues, to assert that it has exposed the "falsehood" of the opposition's campaign.Nadda said the people of the country had fully understood the double standards and the negative politics of the opposition. "People have taught a befitting lesson to the forces seeking to create instability in the country in the past, and will do so in the future too," he added.
