‘Unsolved Mysteries’ Returns As Video Podcast

Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Unsolved Mysteries is back and it has a new form.

The iconic true-crime series is returning as a video podcast. This comes more than three years after its previous audio-only podcast ended and a couple of years since Netflix released new episodes of its reboot.

Jordan Murphy, who previously hosted NBC’s Tool Academy and has featured in episodes of General Hospital and Grey’s Anatomy, will host the podcast, which comes from Unsolved Media and Audacy.

It will launch on YouTube on October 29 with new episodes released weekly on Thursdays. There will also be updates to cases previously profiled on the Unsolved Mysteries series and podcast released on select Tuesdays.

The show, which explores cases spanning mysterious murders, strange disappearances, wanted fugitives, and unexplained deaths, will focus on mysteries including the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the vanishing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, and the still-unsolved heist at Boston’s Stewart Gardner Museum this season as well as lesser-known cases.

Unsolved Mysteries, which was originally hosted by Robert Stack and ran for over 500 episodes between 1987 and 2010, previously aired on NBC between 1987 and 1997 and CBS picked it up for two years after it was cancelled. Lifetime aired a number of new episodes in 2001/2002 and Spike also picked it up between 2008 and 2010 with Dennis Farina replacing Stack following The Untouchables actor’s death in 2003.

There were around 80 episodes of the audio podcast and Netflix rebooted the show in 2020 and has made 30 episodes across five volumes.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding the Unsolved Mysteries brand in this pivot to the video podcast world,” said Terry Meurer, Unsolved Mysteries co-creator and President and CEO of Unsolved Media. “There are still so many mysteries that need to be solved and we know we can reach a wide audience on YouTube and through Audacy’s distribution. And we hope our audience can help solve these mysteries, as they have for decades.”

“Unsolved Mysteries has an incredibly passionate audience and a legacy that continues to resonate across generations, and we’re excited to bring the podcast into a new era with video,” added Leah Reis-Dennis, Head of Podcasts, Audacy. “With Jordan Murphy at the helm and all-new cases to explore, this next chapter brings a fresh dimension to a beloved franchise and offers advertisers new opportunities to engage with a devoted fanbase across both audio and video.”
