Iga Swiatek advanced to the third round of the US Open with a straightforward 6-3, 6-2 win over Nadia Podoroska at Flushing Meadows on Thursday.
Swiatek, who has six Grand Slam titles to her name including a triumph at the US Open in 2022, was playing Podoroska for the first time since she beat the Argentine en route to the Roland Garros crown in 2020.
The Polish star suffered a brief stutter in the first set where she needed to save four break points but cruised through her match otherwise against the 449 ranked player.
Her straight sets win took her an hour and 11 minutes and will encourage the former world number one who had not reached a final in 2026 till her title run in Toronto in August.
