Translate

At least one person was killed and three others injured when two helicopters collided mid-air while attempting to land at a snow-covered helipad near Mount Everest in Nepal on Tuesday.

Footage shows the helicopters' rotor blades striking each other before both aircraft crash to the ground, sending nearby tourists scrambling for safety. Several people are later seen approaching the wreckage.

The collision occurred at around 08:11 a.m. local time at Pheriche, in Nepal's mountainous Solukhumbu District, involving helicopters operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty.

According to local police, the deceased was a 47-year-old Indian tourist. A 49-year-old passenger from New Zealand and two Nepali pilots were also reported injured.

The injured were taken for medical treatment, while Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Pheriche lies along the trekking route to Mount Everest Base Camp, where helicopters regularly transport tourists, climbers and supplies, as well as carry out emergency evacuations.
