The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a flight safety advisory following the eruption of Mayon Volcano in Legazpi City, Albay, on Friday.
In its advisory, CAAP issued “a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) covering flights near Mayon Volcano, with vertical limits extending from the surface up to 19,000 feet.”
With this, “flight operators are advised to avoid flying near the volcano, which is under Alert Level 3.”
The NOTAM will be in effect from October 30, 2026 at 1:27 p.m. until October 31, 2026, at 11:53 a.m.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Friday reported a moderately explosive eruption of Mayon Volcano in Albay, prompting the raising of Alert Level 3.
In its Mayon Volcano Eruption Notification No. 1, PHIVOLCS said the eruption started at 11:53 a.m. and was still ongoing as of its latest advisory.
The eruption initially generated a grayish plume that rose approximately 3,000 meters above the crater and drifted west-southwest. —LDF, GMA News
