MELAKA: The nomination process for the Melaka election has been completed after all 28 nomination centres across the state closed at 10am.

The one-hour process for submitting nomination papers began at 9am, before the returning officers announced its closure at their respective centres.

Attention now turns to the official announcement of the list of candidates eligible to contest and the number of candidates vying for each state seat.

With nominations completed, the 14-day campaign period begins, as set by the Election Commission (EC), and will run until 11.59pm on Nov 13.

Checks at several nomination centres since early this morning found supporters accompanying their respective party candidates in an orderly manner.

The EC has set Nov 10 for early voting, while polling day is Nov 14.

A total of 687,697 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the election, comprising 675,166 ordinary voters, 9,769 military personnel and their spouses, and 2,762 police personnel.
