The gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice.

Austria was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Sta. Anastacia mourned the barangay chairman’s death and called for justice.

“As we mourn (Austria’s) passing, we also stand firm in our call for truth, accountability, and justice. No act of violence should ever silence a life devoted to public service,” the SK said in a social media post.
