Indonesia seeks more green investment to support clean energy

Translate

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said green investment and the development of the clean energy sector offer crucial strategic opportunities to address the challenges posed by climate change.

"This is where green investment becomes highly strategic," Nurofiq said at the Bali Climate Week 2026 forum in Bali on Tuesday.

He explained that investment opportunities span several key sectors, including clean energy, low-emission industries, waste management, and sustainable transportation.

Green buildings, sustainable agriculture, and the protection and restoration of forests, mangroves, peatlands, and coastal ecosystems also play vital roles, he added.

Nurofiq acknowledged that the energy transition and environmental restoration require substantial funding to meet various climate financing needs, which remain a challenge on the ground.

By expanding opportunities for green investment, the government aims to establish robust financing mechanisms to attract investors and support sustainable regional economic growth.

"With green investment opened through a presidential regulation, it will be a very big opportunity for us to provide funding needs on one side and improve public welfare on the other, as well as improve the quality and integrity of our environment," Nurofiq said.

He explained that green investment is also intended to support Indonesia's commitment to measurably reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the period through 2035.

Through regulations such as Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 on Carbon Economic Value, the government is opening up domestic and international carbon markets to make climate financing governance more transparent and accountable.

With strong coordination between the central and regional governments, supported by adaptive regulations, Nurofiq expressed optimism that the development of clean energy and a low-carbon economy could drive sustainable growth while improving public welfare.
