Netflix Scores Exclusive 2030 FIFA World Cup Rights in Spain and Andorra in Landmark Deal

Netflix has secured exclusive broadcasting rights to the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra, giving the streaming giant all 104 matches of the tournament as it continues to expand its live sports portfolio.

The agreement with FIFA covers the centenary edition of the tournament, which will see Spain, the reigning world champion, co-host the competition alongside Morocco and Portugal.

Under the deal, one match per matchday will be available free in Spain, while a package featuring every Spanish national team match, both semifinals and the final will be offered to a national free-to-air broadcaster.

Netflix has yet to identify its television partner, with further details expected closer to the tournament. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The streamer plans comprehensive live coverage, including pre-game, half-time and post-game shows offering a distinctly Spanish perspective, daily highlights programs on match days and additional content building anticipation ahead of the tournament.

“Few events unite people like the World Cup,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria in a statement.

“Our expanding partnership with FIFA, including the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031 for the U.S. and Canada, reflects our continued commitment to bringing fans closer to the world’s biggest sports moments,” she added.

The deal builds on Netflix’s relationship with FIFA. Beyond securing U.S. and Canadian rights to the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups, the companies collaborated on documentary series “Captains of the World” and the FIFA-licensed video game “FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition,” developed and published by Delphi Interactive for Netflix Games.

Netflix’s broader live sports portfolio includes NFL and MLB events, WWE programming, boxing and mixed martial arts.

“Our shared ambition is to bring fans closer to the game and enable as many people as possible to share in the excitement of the competition,” said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström.

The 2030 World Cup will also feature three centenary celebration matches in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, commemorating the inaugural tournament held in Uruguay in 1930.

According to FIFA’s proposed schedule, the centenary matches in South America will take place June 8-9, ahead of the tournament’s official opening June 13-14. The final is slated for July 21.
