IMI to recommend young riders for Asia Talent Cup selection

Central Lombok, W Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Motor Association (IMI) plans to recommend promising young riders from the 2026 Mandalika Racing Series (MRS) for selection to the Asia Talent Cup.

“IMI will recommend riders competing in the MRS to take part in the Asia Talent Cup selection process,” IMI Chairman Moreno Soeprapto said on Sunday at the series' final round at Mandalika Circuit.

He said MRS champions would be included in a rider database to help promising Indonesian racers advance to international competitions.

“Through this database, IMI systematically tracks riders who have achieved strong results in various national championships, including the Mandalika Racing Series,” he said.

Preliminary data show that four young riders have particularly strong potential to advance to higher levels of competition.

“These four riders have shown outstanding potential and performances, and we believe they are ready to compete at the Asian level,” he said.

He said the development pathway would help sustain Indonesia's motorcycle racing ecosystem, particularly at Mandalika, and produce talented young riders such as Veda Ega, Mario Aji and Kiandra Ramadhipa.

Meanwhile, Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) President Director Ananda Mikola said a sustainable racing development ecosystem was essential to producing Indonesian riders capable of competing internationally, including in MotoGP.

“Mandalika Circuit meets international standards, allowing it to host higher-quality events that can help develop young Indonesian racers,” he said.

He said the Pertamina Mandalika Racing Series continued to adopt international racing regulations based on International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) rules to improve the quality of Indonesian riders.

“From the beginning, we have familiarized riders with international racing regulations. We want them to develop not only their racing skills but also an understanding of the standards required at higher levels,” he said.
