Coach Cheh Chang stable after collapsing during national U-18 event

KUALA LUMPUR: National junior doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star after falling ill during the National Under-18 Championships yesterday.

Kedah BA (KBA) president Datuk Teoh Teng Chor said Cheh Chang was in stable condition and remained in hospital for observation.

The incident occurred while Cheh Chang was coaching his charges, Wong Tze Han-Teoh Chong Yee, during their match against Jason Afandy Wong-Lum Chee Kian at the KBA Hall.

Cheh Chang, a former national shuttler, felt unwell and slumped in his coaching chair before being assisted by medical staff and taken to hospital.

"Cheh Chang felt dizzy and was immediately taken to hospital for further tests and examinations. He is resting, and his condition is better," said Teng Chor.

"The medical team acted fast and took him to hospital. We will follow up on his condition tomorrow."

He was accompanied by girls' doubles coach Amelia Anscelly, who is also the team manager of the national junior squad competing in the championships.

It is unclear whether the hazy conditions in Alor Star, where the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading stood at 119 on Wednesday morning, contributed to Cheh Chang's condition.
