Naiqui Macabroad Joins ‘Chicago P.D.’ Following LaRoyce Hawkins Exit

NBC‘s Chicago P.D. hard-launched its newest cast member, Naiqui Macabroad, last night on the fourth episode of Season 14. Macabroad plays Donovan “Penny” Watts, an officer who stands out from the rest for his bravery while tackling dangerous high-pressure calls. The young lawman also thrives working the field thanks to his friendly nature and his acquaintance with key people in the community.
In the episode, he works closely with Voight (Jason Beghe) and the Intelligence Unit following a murder in the 11th District-Harrison, Penny’s beat. At the end of last night’s episode titled “My Eye, My Call,” Voight recruits him to join his crew.
Macabroad’s arrival heralds a new era for the show, following LaRoyce Hawkins’ exit from the series in the latest season’s second episode. His character, Kevin Atwater, gets his happily ever after as he welcomes his first child, a son named Malcolm Atwater, with his love, Tasha (Karen Obilom). Following a particularly dangerous case that saw Atwater Sr. get shot while on duty, he chooses to leave the front lines and Chicago as a whole to explore a career as a teaching officer at the Academy in Georgia.
A teaser for next week’s episode “Dark Imaginings” reveals Detective Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) will go undercover to bust a top drug dealer whose meth supply is lethal.
Macabroad’s prior credits include appearances on Crackle’s Startup, NBC’s Law & Order, Starz’s Power, and NBC’s Timeless.
