ActionSA pleased to be among top six parties in KZN

ActionSA KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Zwakele Mncwango says being counted among the six leading parties in the province is a significant achievement, particularly as the party did not contest in all municipalities.
Mncwango said this during a visit to the KwaZulu-Natal Results Operation Centre (ROC) at the Durban ICC on Friday, 6 November, as votes continued to be counted following the local government elections on Wednesday, 4 November.
As of 17:00, ActionSA had secured 1.07% of the vote in KwaZulu-Natal and two proportional representation (PR) seats.
ACTIONSA HAPPY WITH PERFORMANCE IN KWAZULU-NATAL
Speaking to journalists, Mncwango said the party had not contested in several district municipalities across the province, including Ugu, Harry Gwala, uMkhanyakude and uMzinyathi.
“It tells you that if we can be in the top six and surpass political parties that contested all the municipalities, for us it means a lot,” he said.
Mncwango said the party was pleased with its performance despite vote counting still being underway, adding that ActionSA had contested in some municipalities for the first time.
“We are getting votes in different areas. This means that our brand is slowly starting to appeal to many people,” he said.
ActionSA’s performance comes as the political landscape in KwaZulu-Natal continues to shift, with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leading the provincial count, followed by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the African National Congress (ANC).
The early results also point to a competitive political environment in the province, where smaller parties could play an important role in coalition negotiations in municipalities where no party secures an outright majority.
ActionSA says its performance in KwaZulu-Natal provides a strong foundation for future elections, despite contesting in fewer than 10% of the province’s municipalities.
