[UPDATED] Sivasangari overcomes Anahat to march into Silicon Valley final

KUALA LUMPUR: Asian champion S. Sivasangari showed resilience to overcome world No. 15 Anahat Singh of India to book a place in the final of the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, United States on Friday.

The world No. 4 Malaysian came back from a game down to win 5-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in 37 minutes in the semi-finals of the Gold-level tournament.

It was Sivasangari's third win over the world junior champion in PSA tournaments.

World No. 20 Farida Mohamed, who stunned world No. 5 Olivia Weaver in the quarter-finals on Thursday, will face Sivasangari in the final.

The eight seeded Farida upset world No. 12 Marina Stefanoni of the United States 11-3, 4-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8 in the semi-finals.

Sivasangari has 2-2 head-to-head record against Egyptian Farida in tournaments.

Sivasangari, who has been training under coach Gregory Gaultier of France in Prague since last year, looks to be in top form to win the Silicon Valley Open.

"Anahat is very talented and very dangerous," Sivasangari, who won the Australian Open and Grasshopper Cup titles this year, told PSA Squash Tour.

"She's definitely amongst the top girls now, and she's still so young. Coming into today's match, I started a bit slow but got myself back into it, and I'm glad with the way I finished it."

"Obviously it's easy to fall into her game. It wasn't really a 'who's playing the best shot' kind of game, but I needed to find my accuracy and once I found that, the game changed.

"I could have done a few things a bit better, but overall I'm happy with the performance," added Sivasangari, who retained the Asian Games title in Japan last month to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
