The Kebbi State Government has completed 25 major infrastructure projects, with seven others nearing completion and 19 new contracts awarded across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed-BK, disclosed this on Sunday during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, where he reviewed the infrastructure achievements of Governor Nasir Idris’s administration ahead of its third anniversary.

Ahmed-BK said the projects covered road construction and rehabilitation, office complexes, transport terminals, drainage networks, bridges and other critical public infrastructure.

He said the administration’s investments were aimed at addressing longstanding infrastructure deficits, improving connectivity and fulfilling campaign promises made to residents.

“The projects are there for the people to verify,” the commissioner said.

He lamented the poor condition of the road network inherited by the administration, noting that years of neglect had left many communities disconnected and public infrastructure in a deplorable state.

According to him, the government’s road construction and rehabilitation efforts have eased transportation difficulties, improved access to rural communities and stimulated socioeconomic activities.

Highlighting some of the newly awarded contracts, Ahmed-BK listed the rehabilitation of the Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini Road and the construction of access roads and drainage infrastructure behind Azbir Arena.

He said the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini Road, located in Argungu Local Government Area, had been awarded with a completion period of 12 months.

The commissioner described road infrastructure as essential to the state’s economic development, particularly given Kebbi’s dependence on agriculture and its growing opportunities in solid minerals.

He said improved road networks and drainage systems would facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, strengthen market access, promote trade and commerce, and attract private investment.

Ahmed-BK also highlighted the newly constructed Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi as one of the administration’s notable infrastructure projects.

He described the former motor park as an eyesore that had become a source of embarrassment to residents and visitors, adding that the new facility was designed to improve transportation services and generate economic benefits.

According to him, the establishment of the Kebbi State Transportation Authority, the acquisition of mass transit buses and the construction of the modern motor park had collectively improved the state’s transportation system.

He said the initiatives had also created employment opportunities and opened up additional avenues for internally generated revenue.

The commissioner stressed that infrastructure development remained critical to improving security and emergency response, as well as expanding access to essential social services.

Calling on residents to support the administration’s continuity agenda, Ahmed-BK argued that a second term for Governor Idris would enable the government to consolidate its achievements and extend development projects to more communities.

“Gov. Nasir Idris has demonstrated the capacity to lead, the commitment to address challenges and the courage to deliver results,” he said.

He expressed optimism that sustained investment in infrastructure would accelerate economic growth, increase productivity and improve the living standards of residents.
