PlayStation's Next Hardware Release Officially Appears In New Music Video

PlayStation's been keeping busy these past few months, as if the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6 wasn't enough to keep the PS5 at the forefront of people's thoughts. While reports about the potential price of the eventual PS6 aren't exactly promising, the company has some other hardware plans in the meantime.

In the past month alone, controllers based on the Gran Turismo franchise and the K-pop idol LISA have become available for pre-order, and pre-orders for new PlayStation Pulse wireless headsets are set to drop before November arrives. Now, the LISA collaboration controller has officially made its way into the idol's new music video.

On October 23, LISA's official music video for the new track "Tarantino" premiered on the LLOUD Official YouTube channel, and it includes a surprising feature for her collaboration with PlayStation. While most of the music video focuses on paying homage to Tarantino's stylized action cinema (to say nothing of a storm of references in the lyrics), the artist takes a brief reprieve from whacking cooks with pots and pans to autograph a fan's PlayStation DualSense controller.

Unsurprisingly, the controller in question is the branded hardware that's currently available for preorder, emblazoned with LISA's eyes, bangs, and stylized star motif. Although it's a fairly brief moment, it seems indicative of PlayStation placing a priority on this collaboration, with the camera lingering on the controller for an extra second as LISA walks away.

The scale of PlayStation's collaboration with LISA seems like a fairly unprecedented move for the company, at least in the PS5 era. Other branded DualSense controllers are, unsurprisingly, based on video games, so the LISA version is a bit more of a swing for the fences than usual. Along with the DualSense, PlayStation and LISA are also releasing an array of tie-in merchandise, mostly consisting of branded apparel.

While this might be PlayStation's most committed K-pop collaboration, it isn't the company's first. Earlier this year, Kim Chaewon, from the girl group LE SSERAFIM, served as the face of a PlayStation marketing campaign that targeted Southeast Asia. In that case, there was no branded controller available, but PlayStation did offer a giveaway of an autographed one.

A good portion of the PlayStation x LISA merchandise should have no trouble attracting fans of the artist alone, as the PlayStation branding is largely incorporated in a tastefully subtle way. The controller, meanwhile, will need to find the crossover niche of dedicated fans invested in both PlayStation and K-pop. Its appearance in the "Tarantino" music video might be the perfect way to do that, getting it in front of fans who may never have seen the PlayStation Blog post announcing the product.

For those less invested in LISA's music, the biggest hardware release on the horizon might be the Grand Theft Auto 6 DualSense, slated to launch alongside the massive new game. Either way, anyone looking to get a new PlayStation controller should have plenty of options at the moment, whether they're a fan of K-pop or not.
