East Java, Saudi Arabia eye US$374 million in potential deals

Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - An East Java trade and investment mission generated potential transactions worth 6.7 trillion rupiah (US$374 million) at a business forum in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the potential value highlighted broad opportunities for cooperation between businesses in East Java and Saudi Arabia.

“From the curation process and repeated online business matching to one-on-one meetings, the recorded potential transaction value reached 6.7 trillion rupiah,” Khofifah said in a press statement received here Friday.

The forum brought together businesses from both countries to discuss trade in key products, the halal industry and supplies supporting the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Khofifah said existing business commitments should be followed by discussions on product requirements, supply capacity and applicable trade regulations in both countries.

“Hopefully, we can follow up on these commitments while considering regulatory developments in both countries. With hard work and efforts to strengthen trade and economic ties, we hope the signed transactions can be realized,” she said.

Products offered included charcoal briquettes, vehicle parts and accessories, glass sheets, paper, batteries, plastic products, chemicals, processed palm oil, fashion, machinery, animal feed, dairy, coffee, tea, spices and processed foods.

Fashion using traditional fabrics and embroidery was identified as a potential growth area for Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle Eastern market.

“East Java's traditional fabrics and embroidery are high quality and have tremendous potential. Hopefully, we can gain broader access to Saudi and Middle Eastern markets, particularly for embroidered clothing,” she said.

Khofifah also said East Java was ready to support Hajj and Umrah product and logistics needs through its industrial capacity, trade network and regional connectivity.

East Java has 13 industrial zones, two special economic zones, one halal industrial zone, 37 ports, seven airports and 12 toll-road sections.

The province's halal ecosystem includes Halal Industrial Park Sidoarjo, 15 halal inspection bodies, 85 halal product-process assistance agencies and 16,424 halal product-process facilitators.

“This halal ecosystem is important because we are offering more than products. We want to build a value chain covering industrial zones, production, certification, human resources and distribution,” she said.

East Java exported $24.28 million of goods to Saudi Arabia in January-June 2026, recording a trade surplus of US$50.40 million.

The mission was attended by about 50 Saudi Arabian companies and business representatives.
