Malaysia, Pakistan share diplomatic experiences in easing regional and global tensions

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23 — Malaysia and Pakistan’s experiences in facilitating negotiations to resolve conflicts were among the matters discussed during a meeting between Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The meeting with Syed Asim was held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi during Saifuddin Nasution’s official visit to Pakistan

Saifuddin Nasution said the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional and international security developments, including diplomatic approaches and peace-building efforts in addressing conflicts and geopolitical tensions.

“Pakistan is widely known to have played an important role in facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran in resolving the crisis related to the Strait of Hormuz. During the meeting, Syed Asim shared Pakistan’s experience in facilitating peace talks.

“I shared Malaysia’s experience in facilitating negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, which eventually led to a ceasefire agreement,” Saifuddin Nasution said in a Facebook post today.

The experiences of both countries demonstrated that despite facing different challenges, diplomacy, dialogue and confidence-building remained the most effective foundations in easing tensions and paving the way for peaceful solutions.

As such, he said Malaysia would continue to support diplomacy and conflict resolution through negotiations, in line with the country’s commitment to contributing towards regional and international peace, stability and prosperity. — Bernama
