Taylor Swift drops mysterious clues during surprise appearance in Emmys sketch

Taylor Swift appeared to drop a string of mysterious clues during her surprise appearance in a sketch at the Emmys.

The pop star played a rookie detective in a spoof Law & Order: SVU sketch during the US television awards, alongside ceremony host and SVU star Mariska Hargitay.

The sketch showed Hargitay playing her character, Olivia Benson, as her SVU team, including stars such as Ice-T and Kelli Giddish, tried to establish if Swift would make an appearance at the Emmys.

The team had large boards covered with clues, photos and red string, featuring a number of her album and song titles, as well as her lucky number 13.

Midway through their discussion, Swift appeared dressed as a detective in a beige suit as she talked through the details of the investigation.

At one point, she turned directly to the camera and said: “I think what we’re looking for is going to be hiding in plain sight.”

She added: “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard, north or south.”

Theories immediately emerged on social media that these were clues about Swift’s re-recording of her debut album.

After Hargitay concluded that the singer would not attend because her husband Travis Kelce was playing in an NFL game at the same time, Swift said: “Maybe she’ll do one of those cool, pre-taped sketch things to support the host.”

Swift’s cat, who is named Olivia Benson after Hargitay’s character, also appeared in the clip.

While the Emmys were being handed out, Swift was photographed cheering on her new husband alongside Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

The duo were seated next to each other in a box as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 31-10 in their opening game of the season.

The pair were seen laughing, chatting and cheering as they watched the game alongside Swift’s father Scott and Kelce’s mother Donna and brother Jason.

Kelce marked his first match as a married man by moving to second in the NFL’s list of most receiving yards by a tight end.

Swift has made regular appearances at games since she began dating the Kansas City tight end in 2023.

The pop star’s documentary series, The Eras Tour: The Final Show, had also been nominated for a Creative Arts Emmy earlier this month but lost out to The Muppet Show.

Swift and Kelce, both 36, tied the knot in a star-studded event at New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 3, which Kelce said offered a “private” setting “without a lot of distractions”.

More than 1,000 guests attended the event, including Cruise and Hargitay, a long-time friend of the singer.

The couple’s romance began after Kelce publicly announced on his New Heights podcast that he was interested in Swift and tried to give her a friendship bracelet containing his phone number after a concert.

Swift later described the move as a “wild, romantic gesture”.

Speaking on his podcast earlier this month, Kelce said he and Swift had been having “so much fun” since the big day.

He said: “Me and Taylor are so thankful for everybody that showed up, from the vows to just seeing everyone, to how much fun we had throughout the entire evening.”
