Typhoon Queenie intensifies while about to exit PAR
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Queenie (international name: Surigae) has further intensified but is already about to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau reported on Sunday.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Queenie is now packing a maximum sustained wind speed of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center (up from the 130 kph in the 5 a.m. forecast) and gustiness of up to 185 kph (up from 160 kph).

Queenie was tracked some765 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, and is moving north-northeast at 10 kph.

According to Pagasa, Queenie is expected to exit the PAR this noon or afternoon.
“Outside the PAR, it will accelerate northeastward towards the sea south of mainland Japan,” Pagasa said.

The typhoon is forecast to intensify further while moving over the sea south of the Okinawa, Japan.
After reaching its peak intensity, Queenie will begin to weaken on Monday, said Pagasa. /gsg
