SINGAPORE, Nov 4 — Julian Cheung has reportedly amassed enough wealth to support his family for three generations, according to his uncle, former actor Charlie Cho.
The 76-year-old told reporters in an interview that he had once advised the 55-year-old Hong Kong actor-singer that he could be selective about the roles he take on once he has accumulated enough wealth.
He recounted: “I told him, ‘If you’ve earned enough money to last three generations — meaning enough for you and your son to spend for your whole lifetimes and still have plenty left over for your grandchildren to last their lives, you can afford to be selective about the roles you take.”
According to Charlie, Julian reportedly told him that he indeed had enough and shared his views on only taking on projects that he truly enjoys.
While the interview was published in May this year, the news recently got renewed attention when Julian returned to TVB after 13 years to star in the currently airing drama The City That Never Sleeps.
Julian, who debuted in showbiz in 1991, gained much attention for his performance in the new drama as the villainous CEO Koon Hau Yin as well as his intimate scene with Hera Chan’s character Kwon Chi Woon.
He has scaled back on his acting projects in recent years, with his last drama Modern Dynasty airing in 2022 and his last film The Prosecutor released in 2024. He was also in the 2021 Chinese reality survival show Call Me by Fire.
According to Hong Kong media, Julian and his 55-year-old actress wife Anita Yuen — who married in 2001 and have one son Morton who turns 20 this month — have reportedly accumulated wealth over the years through real estate on top of their respective careers.
In addition, Julian’s investment in valuable paintings and Anita’s collection of Hermes handbags are believed to have added to their collective wealth. — AsiaOne
