elcome to Sportstar’s live coverage of the Asian Games 2026 closing ceremony from Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. For over two weeks, some of Asia’s finest athletes came together across disciplines, producing memorable contests, historic performances and new champions before the curtain comes down on the 20th edition of the continental showpiece.
India will leave Japan with 85 medals, comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, to finish fourth in the medal table. The overall haul was short of the record 107 medals won in Hangzhou, but a remarkable late surge, historic breakthroughs and gold medals across individual and team events ensured that the campaign ended on a high.

As the athletes walk out, let’s look back at India’s campaign over the past 16 days. India finished fourth overall with 85 medals. Athletics was India’s biggest contributor, with 24 medals, followed by shooting with 15. Archery led the gold-medal tally with five titles, while shooting and boxing produced three each. Wrestling, cricket, hockey, and kabaddi contributed two gold medals each. Across the Games, India won medals in 21 sports.

Boxers and Wrestlers step up for India
India’s boxers produced three gold medals, with Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush all finishing on top of the podium.
Wrestling also delivered two champions. Sujeet won the men’s freestyle 65kg title before Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat added the men’s freestyle 57kg gold.

Kumkum's breakthrough Games
Kumkum Mohod emerged as one of the discoveries of this edition.
The 17-year-old won the women’s individual recurve title and was also part of the Indian women’s recurve team that took gold.

Fewer medals in Aichi-Nagoya, but new champions
India could not match the number of medals won at Hangzhou 2023.
Hangzhou: 28 gold, 38 silver, 41 bronze - 107 medals
Aichi-Nagoya: 21 gold, 27 silver, 37 bronze - 85 medals

Team sports delivers the gold
India enjoyed a strong showing in its major team sports.
The men’s and women’s cricket teams both won gold, as did the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams.
Indian hockey completed another golden double. The women defeated China to win their first title in 44 years, before the men beat Malaysia 5-1 to retain their crown.

Next Asian Games will be in Qatar
The Asian Games flag will be handed over to Qatar during the closing ceremony. Doha will host the 21st Asian Games in 2030, 24 years after the Qatari capital first staged the continental event in 2006.

Archery leads India's gold rush
Archery was the nation’s biggest source of gold medals this edition.
Indian archers finished with five gold medals as the country enjoyed success across compound and recurve events.

Neeru Dhanda to carry the tricolour
Trap shooter Neeru Dhanda will be India’s flag-bearer during the closing ceremony after an outstanding campaign.
Neeru finished the Games with three medals. She won the women’s individual trap gold, took silver alongside Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat in the women’s trap team event, and then partnered Kynan Chenai to win the mixed team trap gold.

A late gold rush changed India's campaign
India’s medal table position transformed dramatically towards the end of the Games.
After collecting 10 gold medals through the first 12 days of competition, India won another 11 across the final two competition days - six on Friday and five on Saturday - to jump into fourth place.
