Ryan Garcia says Floyd Mayweather has agreed to face him in a professional boxing match at 147 pounds, with Garcia's WBC welterweight championship on the line. Garcia put out this claimed agreement on October 21 through X and Instagram, and said the bout would pit Mayweather's 50-0 professional record against the reigning champion. He also shared an image linked to a FaceTime conversation and said both men agreed to make the fight public. But Mayweather has not publicly confirmed it as of October 22. No fight date, venue, contracts or formal WBC sanction got announced either. Until a signed contract and a boxing commission license exist, this stays a one-sided claim.

Garcia Says Mayweather Agreed to a Real Fight at 147 Pounds
Garcia's post on X was clear about what he's claiming, even though he admitted he doubted the news himself in the beginning.
“Trust me at first I thought this was bull***. But it's real Floyd and I agree to a fight. 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world. 50-0 vs The current champ,” Garcia wrote.
Then on Instagram he added that he just spoke with Mayweather by phone. According to Garcia, Mayweather wanted a real fight and not an exhibition, so both sides agreed to post about the matchup.
This difference is important for Garcia, because he already turned down the exhibition idea earlier in October. When reports of negotiations came out around October 6–7, he wrote: “Okay Floyd let's see how much you love that ‘0'.” He also said he wanted Mayweather's undefeated record on the line.
WBC Support Depends on Mayweather Meeting Its Requirements
The WBC title fight still needs more than Garcia's announcement. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said around October 20 that the organization would support Mayweather coming back to face Garcia for the belt, but only if Mayweather passed the required medical examinations and got a license from the relevant boxing commission.
Mayweather, 49, retired from sanctioned professional boxing after beating Conor McGregor in 2017, finishing with a 50-0 record. Since then he's been competing in exhibition bouts only.
Garcia, on the other hand, won the WBC welterweight title against Mario Barrios in February 2026 and defended it with a second-round knockout of Conor Benn in September.
So the proposed matchup now hinges on Mayweather confirming the agreement publicly and meeting the conditions outlined by the WBC. Neither a date nor a venue has been announced.
